Wow...we have been super creative in our classroom whether it's drawing blueprints or actually creating buildings with blocks! The preschoolers loved our tree display in the hallway so much that I thought it was time for a new one! On Monday, we looked at a map that Ms. Brus created. It showed our school and some of the places around it like our football field, Young Explorers, the Laundromat, and even the swimming pool! We decided to make a map in the hallway! First we brainstormed about some of the different things we would find in a town including roads and the different kinds of buildings. Roads were the first thing that we created for our display. After the roads were down, the kiddos started to create different buildings! They worked hard on adding some kind of detail and/or sign to show what their building was. Once they finished, they got to decide where they wanted to put the building at on our map. Be sure to check out our displays in the hallway and enjoy some of the pictures that were taken as we created it! Kiddos will continue to add more buildings until they feel it's complete!
Last week, we read a wordless picture book called Changes, Changes. We discussed how wordless books are fun, because the reader gets to make up their own story to go along with the pictures! This story had pictures of a boy and a girl working together to build different things with blocks! For example, their house started on fire and they used the blocks to make a fire truck and hose. We listened the first time and then the second time, the kiddos were partnered up where they worked together to build the different things just like the characters in the book. It was fun to see how the kiddos worked together while building with blocks!
