Tree Celebration!

We had a tree party to celebrate all the things that we learned during our tree study!  Morning friends listed out many things that grow on trees while the afternoon friends listed many different animals that live in trees! One kiddo mentioned wood comes from trees and we make lots of things from wood! I was very impressed and loved hearing a couple of kiddos mention deciduous trees lose their leaves each year while evergreens stay green all year!  Deciduous is such a big word for 4 year olds!  They also mentioned the 3 parts that a tree has roots, trunk and crown! Here are some different pictures from center time as well as the previous week where we sorted things that were made from wood and not wood.  We enjoyed making our cheese sandwiches in the shape of an owl, leaf or squirrel.  We also made some tree crafts! 

  This past Friday, Miss Molly, the Madison County Naturalist, visited our classroom! She showed us many different seeds, leaves, and nests!  We did a super job of being star listeners for Miss Molly and showed her what we all learned about trees! 

Throughout the tree study, both classes created a giant tree in the hallway and continued to add animals to it.  Here's a variety of pictures from creating these two trees.  At the beginning, we made a list of materials that we would need and then the kiddos used their ideas from there to decide on what we would use for the different parts.  I just helped them access the materials and of course hang the tree parts in the hallway.
